Dark Marks

Back in November 08 while away on vacation, I woke up with my neck burning and extremely red. The burning was so bad that I had to apply hydrocortisone cream. The cream seemed to relieve the burning but by the time I returned home to see my doctor I had developed brown circular marks on the area. I was told that it was eczema and was given Hydroquinone usp, 4% skin bleaching cream along with fluocinonde ointment to apply on the area 2x  a day. I haven't experienced the bad burning as before but occassionally have experienced some minor burning. The dark marks are so bad that I apply cover up makeup to the area to hide them. The bleaching cream seems to be only lighting the area around the dark spots so I stopped using it. I have tried numerous creams and not getting any good results. What can be the cause of my outbreak and what if anything can I do to get rid of the dark marks?

Guess once a year you can get the LFT to make sure that you are fine.

I thought I would give you an update on my visit to the derm doctor. The derm doctor took a piece of skin to do a bioposy. The report can back saying there is nothing active. She believes it could be lichenoid dermatitis btut it is not confirmed since she did not see my neck in the beginning states of inflamation. I was told is can be a result of mixed medications, hepatitis c or for some just a inflammatory condition. I was told I could use triluna bleaching cream to help lighten the dark marks.  My last blood work my primary physician did an LFT- she said it was normal. Should I know go back and have the hepatitis panels done?

Let me tell you that insects have a pedilection to the collar and cause an irritant dermatitis remenisient of the photograph you have supplied, and the typical history of burning pain in the morning.Hope you will get your problems solved soon, but then get over the herpes factor more an internet induced disease than in reality.

I'm a african american female and the only meds I take is synthroid. I have been on that for some type and never had any problems. There was a similar episode which cause me to seek a derm dr to begin with. I had one dark spot in the middle of my neck right near my thyroid gland but it wasn't circular in size. I was told by one derm dr that it was a result of hormonal changes and was given some cream to lighten the spot. The cream burned my neck and I never returned to that derm dr. I found another dr and was told it was eczema  and the 1st derm dr gave me the wrong cream to use as I have sensitive skin. I was then given various creams to try. Neither one help and I eventually stopped using them. That dark mark disappeared on its own.

I returned to the current derm dr with the problem I now have. At that time i also had a cold sore on my lower lip. Immediately the derm dr said the cold sore was herpes and the dark spots were not in any way related. She took cultures of the cold sore and it came back negative for herpes. She said apparently I had some type of staph infection. I was given some cream for the cold sore which disappeared. As far as the dark spots she also took cultures and that just came back as dry skin.

A million things have been running thru my mind in relation to the dark spots. Could it possible be a strain of herpes or staph infection? I even think maybe its some type of skin cancer.

I have an upcoming appt scheduled with an african american derm dr who specializes in skin of color. Hopefully I can get some answers to what is going on with my skin because as of now I haven gotten any.

Fixed drug eruptions do present like this.Remember back and see whether you had taken some pills prior.Blister beetle dermatitis can produce exactly similar to the ones shown in pic in tropical country where i lived.Almost all the cases reported early morning with severe burning. It left behind a pigment which disappeared after many months.
