Dark spots on both legs after taking calcium suppliments

My mother has osteoarthritis. Whenever she takes calcium tablets prescribed by the physician, she develop dark spots in both the lower limbs, with itching. When she discontinues the medicine, the dark spots subside. What can be the possible reasons behind the dark spots on the skin of both the lower legs, and also what alternative medicine can she take ?
