Fordyce Spots - Please help!

Thanks in advance for helping me. I'm a 17 year old male who has Fordyce spots on my penis. After reading about them it seems that laser removal is the most common treatment. However, I'm hoping there might be some kind of topical cure, one i can obtain ideally without a prescription. I'm not sexually active but once I turn 18 I may very well be. These spots make me very self-conscious and I really would like to be free of them very soon. The only thing I have tried is clyndamycin phosphate gel, which I have for my acne...that was before I thought to even find out what my condition was. I also have vitamin A&D lotion available. PLEASE tell me what I can do to get rid of them without having to tell my parents (so if possible, no doctor appointments, no prescriptions, etc.)

I am a CNA at a nursing home next to a clinic and if it's possible for me to walk in or have an appointment without my parents knowing I can do that...it's just very embarrasing for me. The information I'm looking for is what I can most easily buy, how much it is, how long it takes for the spots to disappear, and if they will go away forever ir come back. While I expect a lot of people to tell me I should just tell my parents and go to+l a doctor...please just know my parents would never be okay with it, they're very against masturbartion which is how I must've gotten them. Please help me and tell me what I should or need to do. Thank you again.

Hi I just turned 30 and all of a sudden I started to develop Fordyce Spots in various places over the shaft on my penis. I started using topical retin-a gel 0.01% in November and 2 weeks into it I have all of the mentioned side effects, redness, etc., and it seems as though the Fordyce Spots have increased! I plan to continue the treatment until the end of January (12 weeks) and will report back intermitently but if this fails I plan to see a dermatologist for cosmetic surgery with a CO2 laser. I was just checking to see if author47 had any feedback as to whether or not the retin-a worked to get rid of his Fordyce Spots and if so how long did it take? Thanks.

No, it's not a condition of the foreskin, the fordyce spots can be anywhere from the testicles to the penis, and the area around it.  I am circumsized, and still had them.  I have been meaning to update on here, I wanted to tell everyone who might be reading this thread for help.  I started using Retin-A Micro which is a medicine with .04% tretinoin, and while I did experience some side-effects which space_ghost specified, I continued to ignore the itching and applied the medicine daily...the spots have already began to clear up and the red/itching has decreased as well.  As with all medicine, individual results vary.

i don't know too much about retin cream
so its your move dude
i wont recommend but i wont disregard it either.

Like i said though, try to fake out your parents so you can talk to your Dr.
and ask him about fordyces spot and see if he is familiar with the skin condition, because unfortunatly not many dr.s that i have talked to know anything about it.
But tell him about what your parents might think about it and have him back you up because he will.
Your Dr. can help you resolve this between you and your parents so they can both help you.
good luck

Very soon you would see the whole thing flaring like what Author47 has told you with all is authority. But then some times experience is a great teacher though not necessarily in this case.

Well as luck would have it I actually found some retin a micro in our medicine cabinet. I used it on my fordyce spots and after 3 days, it looks like the top layer of skin has come off my penis. Should I stop using it or is this the way it works and just keep using it? Thanks.

hola author, lucky you that i saw this page
i was about to right one down myself..
im 18 and i have had fordyces spot since i started puberty.
Heres the facts
their not contagious
their embarrsing and annoying as ****
and surgery is practically ALMOST the only way to get rid of them
Now i have talked to my Dermintolgist and he said that this method MAY work
it is a cream called tretinoin 0.05%

I have tried it and you WILL get harsh side effects
so if your planning on gettin with the babes, your gonna wish you had the fordyces spot instead of the tretinoin side effects.
for me, the effects were a bright red inflation, it may itch, its best not to... try to avoid the itch because if you itch it, you will itch more and more and more and it will never stop to itch
so no itching
now i gave up after about 3 weeks cuz i was taking other kinds of meds and i had to stop using it,
i really didnt get any progress of any of them going away
but i am planning on trying it one more time
and thats why i signed on tonight to see if i should or not.

Unfortunately for you, it needs a prescription from the Doc.
just  next check up to go in alone,
tell your parents "i dont go in with you in your doctor appointments dad, so F off"
i'd suggest going to a dermatologist though.

and fordyces spot are oil glands that are clogged from sweat and skin cells in all
its not contagious and not cause by masturbation.

sorry but im not gonna check over my spelling and literature mistakes
migraines is roaring right now
Best of luck man

While I do sincerely appreciate your contribution, as I described I'm aware of the laser treatments but I'm asking about any possible topical treatments that might be available, maybe even without a doctor visit thanks.

Hello,
Fordyce spots are small, painless, raised, pale or white spots or bumps 1 to 3 mm in diameter that may appear on the shaft of the penis. The spots are a form of ectopic sebaceous gland, and are not known to be associated with any disease or illness and are of cosmetic concern only. They are non-infectious and a natural occurrence on the body.

Treatment of Fordyce spots includes CO2 laser or electro desiccation, TCA chemical peels(temporary treatment),diathermy or laser vaporization.

Pls discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.

I hope that helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
