How long does the redness from a male yeast infection take to go away?

Hi,

I was diagnosed with a yeast infection and was prescribed Diflucan (a pill a day for 5 days) and I just finished that yesterday. The burning and itching has for the most part disappeared and I am wondering when I might see a change in the redness. I have it on my scrotum, a little on the tip of my penis, and in the folds between my thigh and groin. I have also been using Lamisil for the past couple of days to see if that helps. I also have pimple like bumps from my hips to my buttcheeks and lower back, are those caused by the yeast infection as well?

Any medical help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hello,
Since these red splotches appear and disappear, so they can be hives. Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours.

Many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known. Others may be triggered by viral infections or medications. Apply some calamine lotion and take some Benadryl. If the symptoms are severe then allergic reaction has to be ruled out . You should consult your doctor as the medicine may need to be reviewed.

Hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Hi, thanks for the help. I was also wondering what sort of effects can the yeast have on the rest of the body. I have began seeing red blotches on my skin, usually when I wake up in the morning, and then they go away after an hour or so. They were circular and didn't really itch or burn. I also, at the moment, have some redness on my mid back and neck. Also, what sort of effects could the folliculitis cause?

Thanks again

Hello,
The redness will take some time( abt 10-15 days) to subside but the bumps on the back and buttocks can be due to folliculitis. Folliculitis starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing or blockage of the follicle. In most cases of folliculitis, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph).

Please keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
