I developed vitiligo in 2004 after having hip replacement surgery. I shaved my head, and attempted to get a tan on it, but it just wouldn't seem to tan. I went to the dermatologist hoping to find a solution, only to hear the bad news. The worse part began with redness on the head of my penis shortly after the surgery. The derm. said to dry off after I urinate, which I did. But it would continue to be very touchy...sometimes to the point i could hardly touch with the cloth when i bathed. About six months ago I realized the foreskin had fused to to the head on the backside. I continue to procrastinate going to the doc...for obvious reasons. The vitiligo is on my head, groin, and on my wrist area. It hasn't spread to my joints at this point. I'm assuming I need to go back to a dermatologist....or should I see a specialist? And what type of specialist?
Hello,
From the symptoms it sounds like eczema. Fungal infections can also present with such symptoms but the lesions are red, itchy, mosit and may have a foul smell. What you can do is get a KOH examination of the skin scrapings to rule out any fungal infection. Allergy tests for eczema will also help. Treatment can then be planned. It is mostly antihistaminics and steroid for eczema and antifungals for fungal infection.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
