Lip Problem

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure what this is and the doctor can't figure it out either, but I have white spots where my skin meets my lip and they hurt. They began about a month and a half ago and seem to get worse when I am in cold areas, but then don't seem to get better. They do not appear to be an allergic reaction as they did not go away with the 'steroids' the doctor gave me. Not only are they a confidence killer but they are painful. I have taken a few (poor quality) pictures of them in the hope of it being helpful to anyone who may have seen this before. Does anyone have any idea on what they are/possible medication that will fix this? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the swift response, it is much appreciated. Based on the picture and the information I have provided, which is it more likely to be? I'm divided in my opinion. I thought Fordyce spots were meant to be painless, yet this hurts. I have been tried on a couple of antibiotics and also steroids, yet they have not disappeared. Thanks again.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be either Fordyce spots or inflammation of the small hair follicles over the area. Fordyce spots are small yellowish-white granules on the inner surface and border of the lips.
Treatment of Fordyce spots includes CO2 laser or electro desiccation, TCA chemical peels(temporary treatment),diathermy or laser vaporization. In cases of inflamed hair follicles, antibiotics and steroids may be needed. An evaluation with a dermatologist will be the best.

I hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
