Rash on lower leg

For over a year I have a raised red rash on my lower leg. My doctor prescribed cortisone cream which helps with the itchiness but not clearing it up. Have also tried tea tree oil, again not clearing it up. Please advise if there is an ointment that can help clear this up.

Hello..Thank you for the information which is very helpful.
I went to see a colleague Homeopath who reminded me of this same rash a couple of years ago in which she suggested a food allergy. I then went back to my doctor who agreed that this was definitely stomach related especially as I have been in great discomfort of late. I have taken a course of cortisone and am taking a daily digestive aid twice a day all with great results. The rash has gone and am more comfortable in the stomach area especially after eating and on a more back to basics diet. My doctor has taken allergy blood tests of which we await the results.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL

Hello,
From the symptoms it can be allergic contact dermatitis, stasis dermatitis or eczema skin. Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps.

For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid. Use good quality moisturizers to prevent moisture loss from the skin.

If still the symptoms do not improve then please get a clinical examination done by a dermatologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
