SCARFACE

I am a 40 year old woman who had a blemish above her lip over at least 10 years ago.  I don't think it ever healed properly because I picked at it.  Within the last 2 years, it has changed from a small flat white scar to a growing small white shiny scar.  It was the size of a pencil eraser and i now the size of an irregular dime and has grown into my lip line, causing a white 'dent'.  It every so often 'sloughs' or scabs.  It does not bleed, but it seems to try to heal or something.  I wear an SPF of 15 with my moisturizer every day, but sun damage has been done previously, no more.  I plan to make an appt with a derm, but was looking for answers, thank you.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
For such kind of blemishes which have scarred as a result of picking, topical creams are of little help. You can go in for laser treatment, Chemical peeling or microdermabrasion. It shows good to excellent response using Ruby, Alexandrite or ND YAG lasers.  Avoid picking, harsh scrubbing, and abrasive treatments unless prescribed by a dermatologist during this period.

My advise would be to consult a dermatologist and discuss these possibilities with him.
I hope that helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
