Tiny red dots and water blisters on husband's penis head

Dear Dr,

I have a problem. My husband recently got these tiny red dots and tiny water blisters on the head of his penis. It is a bit itchy sometimes and when the blisters "broke", the skin was tender just below the penis head. We have sex without condoms and I have had trouble with yeast infections mostly all my life. Could this be my fault? About the same time he got the rash/condition, I got tiny cold sores inside my mouth. I feel really terible about this, because I am scared that I caused this condition for him! We have tried Bactroban ointment, and it seems to help, but I don't know if it is the right medication. Please help??

Best regards

I think you and your husband should still get checkout even if it cleared up. Honestly it sounds like you both could have herpes. In your case you can have it orally and vaginally. A yeast infection can not cause these type of sym in a man or any one else for that matter. So it is not your fault!! But herpes can show and clear up within a week or a few days and you or your husband may not have another out break for wks, months or years even. But if you havent been tested i feel you should do so it is always better to know.

Hi,
I think it might actually have been an allergy or something, because it went away completely in about  a week's time with the use of Bactroban. It is looking great now, but I will keep you posted if there are any further developments. Also, the blisters never made ulcers, it just popped and left the skin tender. It looks as if you have a blister on your foot from a shoe and you open it (just much smaller!). Thank you for your advice!
Kindest regards

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
From the symptoms I would like to rule out the possibility of genital herpes. Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2). Most individuals have no or only minimal signs or symptoms from HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection. When signs do occur, they typically appear as one or more blisters on or around the genitals or rectum. The blisters break, leaving tender ulcers (sores) that may take two to four weeks to heal the first time they occur.

The only way of ruling it out is by getting yourself tested for genital herpes. Laboratory tests include: culture of the virus, direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) studies to detect virus, skin biopsy, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to test for presence of viral DNA. I sincerely advise you to consult a dermatologist and get it ruled out.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
