Wart on upper lip

Atleast thats what I think it is. I've had this one wartlike growth on my upper lip (dead in the centre) for a long while. It's never spread anywhere  or got noticably bigger its just kind of sat there. Anyway more recently its been bugging me, I'm 20 and although it's small it is noticeable and I'm worried that I could pass it on to any partners.
I've also noticed recently that it does seem to be getting bigger, or atleast it seems to be petruding more, as if another is growing underneath pushing the orginal 'up' (there's even a sort of seem of flap...very odd).
I asked my doctor about it but he didn't seem to interested, he said to leave it and it will probably go away and removal could cause scarring, neither of which was helpful or comforting.
I've also been doing some research on the web and found that it could be linked to the coldsores that I have been getting since I was very young.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on what it is and what possible treatments are available? I've been googling madly to try and find a picture of something similar but I can't find anything. It doesn't look like your typical wart, its smooth and skin coloured.

This is really killing my confidence at the moment, especially when it comes to the ladies....

Thanks for the help

Jon

P.S

I tried to get a photo but my phone camera isn't doing it justice.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I'd always considered skin tags to be fairly 'loose', this is quite solid and fixed to the skin. However I have to admit that is much better than a wart, atleast there is no chance of giving it to anybody else. I imagine due to its position that scarring could be an issue, its hard to weigh up which is worse.

I will, if I can get a picture later on today.

Hi.

I understand that the presence of any growths on the face is quite discomforting. This may be a skin tag. Skin tags may sometimes be mistaken as warts, although a wart may still be a differential. Skin tags are benign and are not contagious unlike warts which are viral in origin. Skin tags may fall off in the long run. Just refrain from touching them as they may irritate the skin and may only cause further irritation.

I suggest that you just continue to observe the bump. You may seek second opinion if you feel very uncomfortable with this. The may opt to remove this with freezing or electrocautery if indicated. However, there is a risk for scarring.
