What could be the cause of these bumps on the shoulders and how to get rid of them?

I'm twenty years old and since puberty, I've developed these bumps on the back of my shoulders. They are seem like big acne. However, there is no pain with them per se. They are dark and round. At certain times, they appear to gt bigger and then they shrink (maybe close to my period times, though, not always). They are always present however, just fluctuates its size. I've had a bad facial acne problem as well and saw a doctor about it. He gave me a prescription of a contraceptive and APO-DOXY (Doxycycline Hyclate Capsules USP) The facial acne has been gone now for months and my skin is getting clearer every day of the marks.  However the ones on my shoulders have remained the same.

Hmm... did the doctor say it's acne as well? it sounded to me like cystic acne till you mentioned they seem to fluctuate in size. As far as I know, cystic acne don;t fluctuate in size. Can you ask your doctor to name them exactly? did u not go for a follow up where he records any improvement, etc.?usually cystic acne are dark and round and can appear anywhere, esp face, arms, shoulders, chest etc. the contraceptive pills should have taken  care of them though.

let us know here if you get any more info. Sorry I couldn't be more help than that!

Thank you. The Doctor I had seen is no longer available to me anytime soon for me to have a follow up check up. However I'm still on the contraceptive pills and there's been no change in those bumps.
However, when the doctor had seen my back, he said he'd seen a lot more worst acne problems so hence why I thought they may be as he didn't say otherwise
ok, so it sounds like it IS acne and maybe it isn't getting treated well using the modality he's prescribed to you. He will most likely prescribe other meds to you.
