applied miconazole on fungal infected area then itches even better

Due to the unprotected sex 10 days ago, i contracted yeast infection on my penis. First there were white spots in meatus, then i cleaned them up, and doc said i gotta take a fluconazole and apply miconazole on my penis. I applied miconazole this morning and it itches like hell. Is this how it's supposed to be, like side effects, or it just doesn't work that way?

From what I understand, the medication can cause some discomfort and itching as it works to rid the body of the yeast- however, I would call your doctor to let them know about the side effect so they can address it and note it as needed.
