Hi
I have suffered for 12 years with spots on my scalp. They are there all the time and particularly exacerbated by direct heat, for example using a hair dryer, so I don't do this anymore, and funnily enough aren't affected by sunlight (they neither clear up or get worse) but they are still there.
They are very painful, and can burst even if I just tie my hair up and I can't even think about combing my hair. The worst thing is the swollen lymph nodes that come with a really bad attack as it makes it difficult to turn my head! (Mainly post auricular).
I have been given Coal Tar Shampoo and Ketoconazole shampoo (I presume my GP thought it is sebhorric dermatitis but on looking at images of this I do not have the flakiness or patches that go with it). Nothing seems to work, have tried eliminating various things from my diet and these shampoos.
I wonder if this is some kind of autoimmune thing? My GP tells me to lose weight now my BMI is 27, but I've had this since I was 14 and only became overweight in the last couple of years. I was recently treated for an anal fissure and have what can be termed "Irritable bowel syndrome" and sweat excessively on exertion, something that runs in the women in my family but I cannot even walk on a cold morning without sweating profusely from my face and body.
My GP now tells me that all these things (I am particularly bothered by the scalp) is just something that I have to live with. As a medical student (who has not yet done an attachment in dermatology!) I refuse to believe that modern medicine does not have an answer! What do you think?
