I do have a history of Herpes, but this isn't it. Yes, it is red, also. I was taking Valtrex daily. I wonder if this is a trigger, but wouldn't it hit me all over the body> Thanks, Kay
I know it's not related to the knee pain, as I have had two previous surgeries on the knee. I already have had the preop physical. Surgery is schedules in two days. The rash is somewhat itchy-burny, and almost reminds me of prickly heat. Its now going down the back of my thighs. I have had the same thing happen twice in a matter of months. No change in soaps or detergents. Each time it happened, my family Dr. put me on prednisone and it cleared up somewhat. Seems odd. If it were an allergy, wouldn't I break out all over the body? I do tend to use vasoline as a moisturizer. Thanks
Hi,
This seems to be a case of dermatitis or folliculitis. Is the rash itchy? Is it red in color? Is the rash flat or elevated? Would you be able to identify certain triggers like food intake, certain exercises and activities?
If the rash does not directly involve the knee area and if the cause of the rash has been ascertained then the surgery may not be contraindicated. Infections and allergies have to be ruled out prior to the knee surgery. Usually a pre surgery clearance is done and your physician provides the final assessment if the surgery pushes through or not.
The rash does not sound serious but it is important that triggers should be identified. You may seek consult with an allergologist if the rash continues to persist despite medications
