It is covered, as far as I've heard, just like any other pump. You put the site in, then attach the pod over it. It's not a small lump, but it is self-contained. Team Type 1 (http://teamtype1.org/index.html) used them when they won the bicycle Race Across America this summer. I know lots of people on this pump, and they love it.
the mini med pump did not work for me. i had no delivery due to the catheters bending. then i experienced retinopathy and had a vitrectromy, which made me blind for 10 days. my physician wants me back on a pump, but omnipod is not recognized by medicare. therefore i cannot get it despite it being a medical necessity. i'm petitioning medicare tonight.
I have had minimed pump for 11 yrs and it works for me.. omnipod isnt cover yet cuz they are still testing it
