New Research Article

mlz
Hi, I know this is not a question and I hope I'm not encouraging poor etiquette, but I was forwarded this article and found it interesting and I wanted to share. Wondering if any of our specialists have any thoughts on it...

NY Times requires free registration

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/09/health/09diab.html?oref=login

For those who can't log on to NYT, this article talks about a new research for curing diabetes. It involves stopping the attack of white blood cells on the islet cells in the pancreaes as well as killing those white blood cells. When this was done, the islet cells grew back, this is what had not been found before. JDF has recreated this finding in their own research.

Dr. Denise Faustman is the doctor in the article, if you'd like to do a google search to find more info.

Hi mlz,

I thank you for taking the time to post here about new research.  I am a volunteer and not a medical professional, so I am not an expert:)  My son (now 9-1/2) was diagnosed at the age of 3 and my sister (now 32) ws diagnosed when she was 24.

I could not login, so I am definitely going to search for this info.  I do strongly believe that there will be a cure in my son's lifetime.  (I pray there will be for everyone's sake!!)

There are other volunteers who are medically knowledgeable and I am sure will have a lot of input in regards to this article.  I will be looking into this...it sounds very promising!

Take care:)

Thank you for posting here and for the
