Dear Notalrightind,
I too, like LRS, cannot give you medical advice on your situation as I am not a medical professional.  We are volunteers with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation who share our life experience with type 1 Diabetes and try to help folks like you who are looking for answers.  Unfortunately, HCV is not in my field of expertise and therefore, I am not qualified to give you any other information than what you know already.  Your healthcare team should be the ones who can help you get the answers you are looking for.  If for any reason, you cannot get those answers from them, keep looking for a healthcare team who can be part of the support system you'll need to get through this most difficult point in your life.  Being informed about your own medical condition is so important and it sounds as if you are up on this, which is great.  I wish you the very best of luck, and if you find that Diabetes does play a role in what has been happening to you, please keep us posted. Sharing this type of information can impact others, especially since thousands of people come to Medhelp for answers.  I wish you better health.

Notalrightind,
What a scary time for you.  I wish I knew more about HCV, but I'm not a physician.  In addition to the medical aspects, think about any close pals or relatives .. who can be with you to help give you strength & courage work thru treatments.

If your blood sugars are rather steady, I wouldn't expect the weight loss to be directly coming from diabetes.  Normally, we lose weight when our BGs are high and our bodies are, literally starving, while all that nourishing sugar is wreaking havoc in our blood.

From what I've read, it's a good idea for you to be followed by a specialist for hepatitis, much like we're advised to be followed by specialist for diabetes.

Here are some web resources that might help you in the interim.
From the CDC:

From Hepatitis C Anonymous:

Hope you'll check back for more info, too.  Good luck; I can certainly relate to your fears and hope you'll find a path to good health.
