Hi,
your question is not easy to answer.
Insulin is anabolic, not catabolic. It causes your body to store fat.
Glucagon is catabolic. Typically these two work together in perfect synchronization.
Insulin resistance results when the cells are no longer able to respond appropriately to insulin and it's instruction to take up sugar from the blood stream. This may happen when the cell has already exceeded it's ability to store sugar and energy / fat.
Addressing insulin resistance typically involves lifestyle measure such as low carb diet, exercise, weight loss. Insulin sensitizing medications may also be taken.
Hope this helps. A very simplistic answer to a very complicated question.
