Type 2 and pregnant.

I'm pretty sure I'm pregnant. I will be taking a test this weekend. I'm scared outta my mind. Not only being pregnant but with me being type 2.  Any advise for me as to what to expect for this long 9 months ahead.

Thank you for your advice. My dr appointment is in a week and a half so I'm trying to read up on what I can eat and what I need to stop eating. I am scared about the insulin. My dr said that poking my fingers hurts more than the insulin. I just want the next 35 weeks to fly by already.

Hi, you will see that insulin is not such a big deal.  It's a much bigger deal to think about than it is to actually use it.  the great thing is that because of insulin you can and will have a heathy baby!

So I just took a pregnancy test this morning. And it's positive. I need to see my dr asap as well as my dietician. I'm so scared for my long road ahead.

Hey!  Contratulations.  YOu do have a long 9 months ahead, but it is perfectly doable.  First thing to know is that even thought the dietician may recommend high carb, there is another school of thought that looks at low carb during pregnancy.  By low carb I mean plenty of non starchy veges, cheese, meat, eggs, regular fat, unsweetened dairy, nuts etc.  You can research that online.  I used the low carb approach and it helped a lot in controlling blood sugar.

IF blood sugar is higher than you want, then a walk may help.  Probably insulin will be on the cards.  Do not be scared of insulin.  Insulin is the tool that will let you have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby at the end of it.

Insulin injection is a breeze once you get the hang of it.  the needle is very thin and you hardly feel it.  This is going to be a steep learning curve, but you can do it.

Lol I was gonna say damn!! Is it 12 months now??   Thank you for your positive feedback.  I will be taking a pregnancy test this weekend as well as a blood test to see how my sugar and a1c has been doing.  I'm just really nervous. I will keep you posted. I was afraid about possibly having to use insulin. I don't like needles. My dr told me poking my finger hurts worse than the insulin.

Hi,
congratulations may well be in order, and wishing you a very smooth 12 months ahead.

Aside from the need to have good blood sugar control, this will not be so different from a non-diabetic pregnancy.  Your Dr may well switch you to insulin early.  This is a good thing as it will help you have excellent sugar control.

Controlling how much carbs you eat and making sure you get exercise will also help.

I have had 2 diabetic pregnancies on insulin.  Both went very smoothly, and while I did have to pay a lot of attention to blood sugar and diet, I ended up with 2 wonderful daughters.

Please ask any questions.  Hugs to you.
