If you have diabetes resulting in kidney issues, then your best way to control this is to stop the damage.  The damage comes from high blood sugars.

Look at eating low carb diet which will help with blood sugar control, optimize your medications to get your sugar levels normal (80 - 120 range is best), and eat moderate amounts of quality protein.
