Normal Weight Elevated Fasting Blood Sugars

Hello, I am 40 yo male, 5 foot 6 147 pounds.  I work out, am in good shape, my trig/hdl ratio is around 1.  I do not appear to have any symptoms of insulin resistance other than elevated fasting BS's.  I do have a family history of type 2 diabetes but neither my parents or brother have it.

My question, my FBS has been high normal for awhile now, but most recent lab work came back as 112.  I have been taking them at home since this reading and they have been between 102-113 every morning.  With normal Trigs, normal blood pressure, normal weight in a person who exercises, does this make sense?  If I am pre diabetic, I don't even know what course to take to prevent it from going into diabetes.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
your fasting is elevated.  Please also check 1 1/2- 2 hours after eating.  This number should be < 120.

If it is higher you need to see your dr for testing.  You should test Hba1c which tests average bs over last 3 months.

Lower carb diet will help.

To be on the safe side, just cut out sugar, eat wheat bread and not white or any foods that are high in carbohydrates.  You already exercise so just try lowering your carbohydrate intake and you should see your numbers drop.

Good luck.
