Forgot to bring my insulin

Forgetting my insulin at home seems to be a regular thing with me.  I know I've only had the disease for a year, and I don't want to miss work because of my own stupidity.  Am I being silly about not wanting to go home to retrieve it, or should I be ok without it for 6 hours?

Hi, I'm also not a Dr but I wouldn't not go and get my insulin if I forgot it @ home I've had to do that. Here is a suggestion maybe you should leave a vile of insulin @ work in the refridgeator.  Hope my advise helps.

I plan on asking my endo for another pen so I can keep some insulin in the work fridge and the pen in my desk.  thanks for everyone's concern.

Is there a refrigerator at work where you can put insulin?  Or a locker where you could keep a pen (30 days out of refrig.)?

I would love to have a pump, problem is that it would cost me $6,000 as it isn't covered by my provincial pharmacare

I keep my insulin in a special little pouch and take it with me everywhere.  In fact I have had diabetes for so long that I feel weird and just kind of know if I don't have my insulin.  Maybe if you put your insulin in a special place-next to your keys or whatever you take with you to work it might help, or have two sets of insulin and supplies-one for home and one for work.  I always keep notes to myself next to my cell phone-I am forgetful, but if I keep things in the same place all the time I don't forget them.  Which means always making myself put things back in the same place too!
It is important to keep monitoring and on top of your blood sugar continuously because you don't want to play catch up later on in the day-which can cause extreme lows and highs by giving more insulin than you need or perhaps not enough.

Hello, limpsy.  I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes.  The issues surrounding high blood sugars are serious, the complications real.  If I had a choice between properly maintaining my blood sugars through insulin therapy or rolling the dice and skipping insulin for a few hours.  Doing that too often isn't worth the risk, im my opinion.

Have you ever considered the pump?  Since it would be attached to you, you'd have a lot harder time forgetting it.
