Insulin Resistance or something else??

Hi,
My name is Sherry and I have been very sick for sometime now.
I have some symptoms that I need answers to and was wondering if these symptoms are insulin resistance or something else.
My symptoms are: Rapid weight gain, I gained 30lbs in less than 2 months no real reason for the rapid change as my diet never changed. My weight was 128lbs and since last year I am up to 195lbs and still gaining, my stomach is so large I look 9 months pregnant. My back of neck has grown a hump and my shoulders have accumulated alot of fat also. I have extreme fatigue during the day and some nights I don't sleep well, waking up sometimes at 2am unable to go back to sleep for hours. My legs and ankles have severe swelling with pitting edema, I can't tell you how bad my feet hurt, I have to just shuffle around because its hard to walk at times. I have horrific lower back pain and my knees and hips hurt deep inside my bones.I am getting what I think is skin tags all over my ankles and legs and under my breast. My vision is blurry and sometimes I see spots. I am losing my hair by handfuls and starting to recede. I have sweating episodes, heart palputations and I get very nervous easily. I have bad headaches. The weakness in my arms and legs are unbearable, simple things like washing my hair, folding and hanging clothes tire me very easily. I have a hard time bending and I can no longer sit in the floor as I cannot get up without help. These are some of my symptoms and I believe my Dr. is leaning towards an Insulin Resistance diagnoses. Does this sound like IR or something else.
Thanks, me

Funny you should say that as I'm thinking Cushing's too!!! but, my Dr's say no. They tell me that I am just overweight and depressed, that I need to diet and exercise. this is something more than just being overweight, thats why I ask if anyone else with Insulin Resistance may have the same symptoms I do?? I do have a MICROADENOMA and TUMOR ON MY LEFT ADRENAL GLAND!!! I've had some elevated UFC"S and some normal ones or very low cortisol levels. I think I am cycling in and out of high cortisol levels, but I cannot get anyone to believe me. I believe in my heart this is what I have and I continue to get worse.
Thanks for you replies and I hope I hear from someone with IR.

You might want to ask your doctor about the possibility of Cushing's disease. It is rare but might be consistent with your symptoms. The specialist to go to for a workup would be an endocrinologist.

Good luck.

Hi Sherry! I am sorry to hear of your recent health issues. None of us here on the Diabetes Forum are physicians, so we cannot offer medical advice.  From my personal knowledge of Insulin Resistance, it begins with being overweight and your body is not able to utilize insulin efficiently resulting in rising blood glucose levels.

Have you had your blood glucose level and thyroid level checked?  I trust that you are being followed closely by your physician.  You may want to see an endocrinologist, who specializes in these issues.  It is extremely important that you be monitored and tested to find out the cause of your health problems.  It is no wonder that you are experiencing a whole array of medical problems with a weight gain of 30 lbs in less than 2 months.  This places a great amount of stress on every organ in your whole body.  I hope that you will pursue this until you get an answer.

Best of luck to you & please let us know how you make out.
