had been taking Metformin 3/Day and just started insulin injections.  My augers are still consistently over 200.  Anyone else have this issue before? Suggestions?

Hello,

your insulin dose still needs to be adjusted.

While your blood sugars are so high, you may need to increase by say 5 units every 3 days or so.  Once your blood sugars are in the range of about 130-150, then go back to increasing by 2 units every 3 days.

What insulins are you taking?  Are you taking both a short (before eating)and a long acting insulin (night time and morning, depennding on the insulin)?

Please make sure you are following low carb, moderate protein, higher (healthy) fats diet.

Hello,

your insulin dose needs to be adjusted to lower your blood sugars.

Your doctor should have explained to you how to do this.

What dose are you taking.  Are you taking a mixed insulin or basal (long acting - as background) / bolus (short acting - to be taken before meals)

Typically insulin dose will be increased by 2 - 5 units (5 units if you are very far from target, and 2 units, if you are close), with blood sugar being observed.  Ideally this is done under supervision from your health care provided or a certified diabetes educator.

Would recommend the book "Think Like a Pancreas", "Using Insulin" by John Walsh, or Diabetes Solutions by Dr. Richard Bernstein.  All describe how to safely adjust insulin doses.

Please also combine your metformin and insulin with a lower carb, moderate protein, and high healthy fats diet.  Regular exercise will also help.
