Hi, I think the guideline is below 100 is within normal for kids. But, your kid had a LOT of sugar (cinnamon roll and frosted flakes is too much, really). I think his numbers sound suspicious though and would again check with his pediatrician. You can request diabetes testing. They can test for blood glucose level (which by the way, you're testing at home already?) and also check his urine for glucose and other chemicals.
Try not to self diagnose and know that only 5% of people get type 1 diabetes which makes the odds favorable that he doesn't have it. Take him to the doctor for proper testing and if he does not, I'd cut down on dietary sugar. good luck
Hi, given the amount of carbs your son had just eaten, his blood sugars sound totally normal.
Suggest you do take a long hard look at his diet. A large bowl of frosted flakes and 2 1/2 cinnamon rolls should not be considered 'food' for anyone.
Children need plenty of quality protein, and healthy fats, and unprocessed carbs to grow. Sweets and treats should be just that, for occasional consumption.
However, there is no harm for the doctor to do a general physical checkup and blood work for things like Hba1c (3 month average blood sugar), CBC, thyroid etc. .
Do keep monitoring your son.
Suggest you look into lower carb diet, focusing mostly on unprocessed foods.
