Severe Headaches

Several months ago I was diagnosed with Reactive Hypoglycemia.  Recently, my sugar spells have gotten worse.  Last week a co-worker found me passed out on the floor.  Since that day, headaches have been unbearable at times.  No matter how bad my "spell" is, once everything seems leveled out, my head hurts so bad that any light or sound bothers me.  Can Hypoglycemia be causing these awful headaches?  Nothing I take (aspirin, etc.) seems to help.

Thank You to Everyone for your responses.  Wendy (Mobile AL)  My sons Daycare class is starting Safety Training next week.  Which will include learning your address, visits by paramedics, etc.  It's really nice knowing there are places to turn to for help.  This forum is very helpful.

Thank You for your time.  I am seeing an Endo on the 23rd.  I wish I knew what to expect from that visit but I don't.  All I know is my regular physician made me an appt because of my passing out recently.  The headaches have literally been so severe that all I could do was retreat to a dark room and pray for relief.  I have not been diagnosed with any type of diabetes.  Another Medical Note, I am prone to kidney stones.  At one time, I had more than 30 stones in my right kidney.  I have been under the care of a Urologist for more than 2 yrs.  Is it possible that my Hypoglycemia could be due to kidney trouble.  Also, I have PCOS (Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome).  I recently had surgery to remove endometreosis.    Bottom Line, looks like I have quite a situation on my hands.  I hope by seeing an Endo, I can finally get SOME relief or at the least, answers to many questions related to my health.  It's time like these I wish I was not a single parent.  My 3 yrs old would not know what to do if something were to happen to me while we were home alone.   I continue to pray and I know God listens to our prayers.  He has lead me to your web site and I greatly appreciate your having created this tool/site.  Thank You again.

I also had endometreosis and know how miserable it can be.  I agree with Wendy that it could be migranes.  That was one of my first thoughts when you talked about being sensitive to light and sound.  My mother had them for many years and if this is the case there are new meds that I hear work wonders.  Best of luck.

Severe headaches can be caused by swings in blood sugar and hormone changes.  Which sounds very possible to me from what you explained. The headaches also sound like migranes, because they are severe and light sensitive.
My daughter gets them from swings go highs and lows.  I get them as I had part of my thyroid removed and when my hormone levels are off I get severe migraines.
The other thing is teaching your 3-yr. old to dial 911 if anything happens to you.  When my daughter was little her daycare taught the children to call 911 and say they need help.  The responder can get your info usually form the 911 system such as address, they are also trained in talking to the child.  Also speak with a neighbor to have them check on you occasionally till you get the situation under control.
I hope the endo can help.   Please let us know how you are doing.

Dear TimsAngel
Reactive Hypoglycemia can cause severe headaches.  You didn'nt say if you have diabetes.  If you are on insulin your dosage may need adjusting.  My son has type 1 diabetes and after a hypoglycemia episode suffered from very bad headaches.  If you do not have diabetes you may want to look carefully at diet, sugar, starch, etc. They can have an effect.  Since I am not a physician, I would strongly recommend to see a good endo and dietician who specialize in this area. If we  can help further, please don'nt hesitate to contact us.  Best of luck.
