hi i am not a doctor or anything but i am hypoglycemic and i saw your post and wanted to help. you want to make sure he has a balanced diet. this will kind of regulate his attacks to a minimum. and if his sugar does drop they sell glucose tablets at almost any drug store and walmart also has them and then come in different flavors and also they dissolve and are chewable. if you dont have them around give him orange juice or anything with sugar like mountain dew or even sugar itself. some snacks you can keep around are like those gummie fruit snacks, and just little stuff like that. good luck. i hope everything goes well =]
On this forum, we have heard from a number of moms whose kids have shown signs of hypoglycemia, and I offer my sympathy, for it is a frustrating problem and frightening to watch your child have these episodes. It sounds to me like you are doing exactly the right things... just keep an eye out on him, for you will notice the changes in behavior maybe even before he notices that he feels bad. Sleepiness, a sudden feeling of chills OR a sudden hot feeling both can be symptoms, yawning for no reason (I tbink the brain seeks help and if it can't get sugars, sends for oxygen), irritable moods, etc. -- these are all classic symptoms of hypoglycemia. After his lab tests come back, you may want to visit www.hypoglycemia.org, a website devoted to this condition.
Thank you ...
I think he may be hypoglycemic, not diabetic. However, sometimes one can lead to the other. From what I've read up on the subject, it reads like his bio. I'll be interested to see the blood work results.
Appreciate your comments very much.
i am not a physican ,but the mom of a type one diabetic. i am glad to hear that yu ar4e having blood work done on your son. below are the symptoms of type 1 diabetes
The symptoms may occur suddenly, and include one or more of the following:
Extreme thirst
Frequent urination
Drowsiness, lethargy
Sugar in urine
Sudden vision changes
Increased appetite
Sudden weight loss
Fruity, sweet, or wine-like odor on breath
Heavy, labored breathing
Stupor, unconsciousness
If you think you have diabetes, call a doctor immediately, and drink fluids WITHOUT SUGAR to prevent dehydration.
if your son ahs several of these symptoms i would recommoned that you discuss it with your docotor asap, as if not taken care of your son can go into keetonacisidis , which can be very serious, causing a coma.
i hope all goes well with the blood work, please check back and let us know how how things are going.
