Hello,

there are different types of insulin - but these fit into two categories: long and short acting.

Long acting insulin is used to keep blood sugar levels stable, even when not eating (In a diabetic blood sugar will rise even without food).

Short acting insulin, is taken before meals and will counter the effect of the sugar in the food to make sure that blood sugar levels after eating a within target range.   It is important to eat within a short period of taking a short acting insulin.

hello, mine is also the same question. i couldn't find any way without giving insulin as i understood that it is the best. in type 1 diabetes pancreas stops working. injecting an insulin is best choice as it gives the body protein. but you cannot use only protein in ur body but you must eat some food within 10 minutes.
hope you understood,
ritu

Hello,

before the availability of insulin patients with type 1 were treated with a no carbohydrate diet (ie their diet was mainly fat, and just a little protein).  they were usually able to survive a few months on this diet.

If a person is really type 1 (ie. their pancreas doesn't produce any insulin) they need injectable insulin to survive and be healthy.

THere are cheaper insulins available (NPH N and R) which can still work well, if cost is an issue.

There are two substances that are known to mimic insulin, leading to the need for less insulin. These two items are cinnamon and liquid ionic vanadium.
