Using fast-acting diabetes AFTER a meal?

Sometimes at work, I go out to lunch with some co-workers.  Most of these times, I don't take my Novalog fast-acting insulin pen with me.  However, I inject myself shortly after the meal, when I get back to the office.  The max. amount of time I inject AFTER a meal is about 30 minutes.  Is this a bad idea or should I assume that it's better to be late than never?  I'm a 26 year old Type-1 diabetic by the way.

Thanks   :)

Awesome, thanks for the advice.
And for the person who asked about long acting insulin, I take a 6 units of Lantus before bed each night.

Thanks again.

I am a volunteer and not a doctor, but as the mom of a type one diabetic, I feel I can safely say that it is better late then not at all.  If your do not take your shot your blood sugar will go too high, then  you run the risk of  developing ketone acidosis.  My daughter
