We are not physicians, and so of course cannot offer you a diagnosis. All of the volunteers who man this site are either parents of type 1 children or are experienced type 1 diabetics themselves. That being said, I wonder if you have had a glucose tolerance test? Some of the symptoms you write about are certainly typical symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). I will list all the symptoms that I am aware of after 36 years of type 1 diabetes. When blood sugar gets too low, you may experience ANY of these symptoms or all of them or any combination. Furthermore, symptoms can vary greatly from one episode to another, meaning that one time you may get a headache while another time you just notice hands shaking.
Symptoms can be:
Hunger (craving for food, usually craving for food containing substantial carbohydrates)
Nausea
Sweating
Shakes or tremors of hands or actually any muscles
Headache (usually in the front of the head, in the forehead region)
Depression
Feeling of anxiety for no reason
Feeling cold or hot for no reason, almost like chills when you are sick or radiating heat like someone having an extended hot flash (either one can happen)
Inability to concentrate
Inability to focus eyes properly or read
Fatigue
Yawning for no apparent reason (brain seems to be desperate for fuel and seems to ask for oxygen when no glucose is avaiable)
Severe hypoglycemia can cause loss of ability to vocalize thoughts (or command a varied vocabulary)
Severe hypoglycemia can cause slurred speech
Dry eyes (I am a contact lens wearer and the lenses get very uncomfortable if glucose levels are low)
Dry mouth -- can be mistaken for thirst
Anyway, perhaps you should print this list out and post it to see if any of the other symptoms appear when you are having this headache. If so, a glucose tolerance test MAY show whether your body tends to produce too much insulin in response to certain dietary or lifestyle triggers. Your doctor can tell you more if this happens to be the case.
About 5 years ago I had a subtotal gastrectomy for a hugh ulcer which caused problems due to my stomach not working afterward and finally had another subtotal gastrectomy one month ago which left very little stomach. My problem is that about 2 years ago I started craving cheese (grated parmesean) and watermelon until now I crave it so much everyday that it's basically all I eat. My doctor doesn't want me to eat this much cheese (1/2 to 3/4 lb a day and a whole watermelon every two days.) I understand that it's not good for me but the cravings are horrible if I don't have it. Any ideas? Thank you.
