swollen nerves behind the eye

My 20 year old son as a child at the age of 14-16 had migraines. Now at the age of 20 he's experiencing per the Dr's first diagnosis, he has a swollen nerve behind his eye. What could be the source of this

my ten year old has been told that the nerves behind both her eyes are swollen and the left eye has speckles behind it too... the doctor has arranged for her to have an MRI scan and electrosis to see if they can find out the problem has any1 ever experienced this...??????..:O)

Hello.  I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes.  There are many possible causes, some diabetes-related, some not.  Diabetic retinopathy can cause that swelling, but it could also be a symptom of other problems.  I would suggest for you to continue to work with your doctor to find the source of the problem.  Good luck.
