Hello,
Let me just say that I have had Type 1 diabetes since my first and only pregnancy with my son 7 years ago. After giving birth, the gestational diabetes took a respite for 6 months and then my sugars shot up and I lost 30 pounds hoping to avoid insulin but I ended up on insulin anyway. I kept off those 30 pounds and was at an average weight until I started Lantus and now I gained back all that weight.
While doctors will tell you it's not the insulin as they don't want you to stop taking it, I do believe some insulins (like any medication) have side effects.
Certainly, as a diabetic, it's not like I am sitting here eating cake and cookies everynight. I eat the least food of any of my colleagues yet I am the only one who has gained weight in the last few years.
Very discouraging...I am thinking of insisting on going back on Humulin N for my nigthtime shot. I take Humalog with each meal but that is fine.
Hi, I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Insulin glargine is also known as Lantus. Lantus, just like all insulins, can stimulate the body into causing fat production, so it is possible to gain weight on Lantus.
