Diabetes (type 2) novalog sliding scale

I lost my sliding scale card that my Diabetes (Metabolic, Endocrine, and Diabetes) doctor gave me to use because I haven't had to use my Novalog since before Christmas.  I currently have a virus and my sugars are out of control.  What is the recommended dosage because I don't want to give myself too much or too little.

Hello,

can you ask your doctor?

Everyone is different in  how much insulin they need so we can't advise you on this site.

You could work it out, I guess. Test your blood sugar. Then inject one unit of insulin and test 2 hours later to see how far your blood sugar has fallen.  One unit is not likely to cause any dramatic problem.  Please make sure you monitor your blood sugar closely when you are taking insulin as an overdose can be dangerous and and an underdose won't get your sugars down enough.

Do you have a past log book as recommended by diabetes86?

How high is your sugar? If it is more than 200 you really should be contacting your doctor about this as well.

can you look up in an old log book to see how much you used to take?

No idea, the scale is different for each person.

the amount of insulin that works for you might kill me or vise-versa
