I have been on dicyclomine for over 30 yrs and It does not shrink your stomach, it is an antispasmodic, which stops your stomach from going into spasms, which is a hallmark symptom of Irritible Bowel.  While some drugs have many applications, looks like this one is just used for one reason.  :)

I'm sticking my oar into this conversation to suggest that the dicyclomine could have more than one usage.  This is one of my biggest complaints when leaving the pharmacy: there's no indication on the label as to what the med is for.  My HMO keeps substituting low-cost drugs for the brands I'm used and it's hard to remember what each one is for.  When I ask the pharmacist, he says he doesn't know what the doctor had in mind.

I think it is a very good idea to see another doctor.  I also take dicyclomine and as far as I know it does NOT shrink your stomach, it is for Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  Let me know what this new doc says about all of this, OK?  take care ;) joyce

I forgot to tell you he has me take dicyclomine 30 minutes before i eat,he said it shrinks my stomach so i stay full and the metformin keeps my phentermine working. But i will go to another doctor so i can find out about being a diabetic.

I'm glad that you called him, did you ask him if you are diabetic??  154 even after a meal is high!  I'm guessing that you are diabetic.  I just don't understand why the doctor hasn't come right out and told you that...and I was also concerned that you may not recognize a hypoglycemic event, which is what happens when your sugar goes to low...were you aware that, that could happen and do you know what to do if it does??  The first time it happened to me, I thought I was dying...the doctor never prepared me for that happening, my sugar was 54...when your sugar drops too low, you can become disoriented and confused, which I was, but, after about 15 minutes I finally realized what was happening and had a small candy bar and that brought my sugar back up to normal...candy is not the ideal thing to eat, but, it was nearby and I didn't think I could make it to the kitchen for juice, I was shaking pretty bad.  Please google symptoms of hypoglycemia so that you are at least prepared if it should happen...you may be lucky and it will never happen to you, but, better safe than sorry!!  Good luck...

Metformin is a glucose lowering drug, phentermine is for weight loss and dicyclomine is for irritable bowel.  You need to ask this doctor if he has run a glucose test on you and if he has determined that you are diabetic.  I am a diabetic and I take metformin...if you are NOT a diabetic, ask the doctor why he has put you on metformin!!  Metformin will lower your blood sugar and you need to be informed about possible hypoglycemic events...call your doctor now!  Please let us know what he says...
