Prednisone destroys the immune response and is generally contraindicated when there is infectious process. Prednisone is ocassionally administered simultaneously with antibiotics when the physician determines the benefits outweigh the risks. Prednisone also elevates blood sugars. You brother needs to go to a wound care facilility and take extra special care to maintain low blood sugars.

One of the symptoms of diabetes can be slow healing. I would definitely go back to the doctor about the hand. Prednisone, being a steroid can potentially raise blood sugars so hewants to be aware of that and perhaps change his insulin doses. He shouldn't remain on prednisone longer than absolutely necessary.
