is this a hormone problem

hi. i m 25 yrs old unmarried lady .wen i was  n 12yrs  i found black color around my neck and overweight suddenly. then i consult a endocrinologist he told me to start with glycomet and i was wondering why should i have this? i took for 4 yrs.then i gone for my higher studies in between i stopped the tablet.after few months again the black color appears around the nose and below the chin  for this i consulted a dermatologist there i undergone chemical peeling but there was no improvement.. after that i got job and i was not at all worrying about the skin problems but now its increases the color around the lips in between i had irregular periods  again i consult a gynaecologist he advised me to check the TSH FSH and 17Hprogesterone after seeing the result he advised to continue with the metformin tablet now i m taking it for twice a day.i was shocked why i should have this tablet i m not having diabetics ?hw long i have to have this? wats the reason for this? give me a solution to overcome this?mentally i m so desp?

What you are describing sounds like polycystic ovarian syndrome.  Did you ask your doctor what your diagnosis was and why he wanted you to take this medicine.

However, if it is PCOS, then metformin is an appropriate treatment.  You also have a high risk of developing diabetes in the future, so this is a good time to focus on staying active and following healthy diet.

We cannot diagnose nor exam you over the inet. Besides helping to lower to glucose [blood sugar] levels metformin is Rx'd to help with weight loss. Your prescribing doctor has your medical records and history and should be the one to direct your medication questions to.
