new glucophage user

my husband has recently started glucophage he is having abdominal pain and sweats and headaches and nervous spells throughout the day. He is not having huge spike in his blood sugars. Should his body adjust to the medicine? and if so how long will it take

I've been on glucophage since the beginning (10 years) , with the exception of a short and nearly fatal foray into Avandia use. I've had all those symptoms for ten years. I also have passed out several times from low blood sugar, something the doctors say doesn't happen on this medication. Ha, ha. Tell that to the Saturday morning crowd at Denny's.

I have been told I am an exception and, normally,  the symptoms are supposed to fade after a few months.  Meteformin has been the best medicine as far as control, but I'm queasy or dizzy or just plain ill a lot of the time.

Your husband seems to be experiencing hypoglycemia and his doctor should be notified immediately. These are the signs:
    * shakiness
    * dizziness or lightheadedness
    * sweating
    * nervousness or irritability
    * sudden changes in behavior or mood
    * headache
    * numbness or tingling around the mouth
    * weakness
    * pale skin
    * hunger
    * clumsy or jerky movements

Also, If he experiences any of the following symptoms, call his doctor immediately: extreme tiredness, weakness, or discomfort; upset stomach; vomiting; stomach pain; decreased appetite; deep and rapid breathing or shortness of breath; dizziness; light-headedness; fast or slow heartbeat; flushing of the skin; muscle pain; or feeling cold.

It's hard to say since you didn't mention his glucose levels nor his Metformin (glucophage) dosage. A lower dosage or a change in medication may be in order. Please call his doctor asap.
