Hi,
Diabtecis can easily be controlled by exercise.Pranayama exercises shown by Hava are also form of exercise and has being proven to beneficial for controlling sugar. However I would also suggest you do to Laughter Yoga (in addition to Pranayama).Laughter Yoga is kind of exercise. pls google it out about laughter yoga and its impact on blood sugar.
I will tell my experience. Last week I went for standard health check-up. As instructed I was on fast from last night. They collected my blood and urine sample at 9 A.M. Then I was offered breakfast at 9.15 am. I had following breakfast
5 to 6 Idli (South Indian Dish)
2 Butter Toast
1 cup tea
2 Banana
1/2 Apple
Now I was asked to come again at 11.15 A.M (i.e 2 hours after breakfast) for blood and urine test. Not knowing what to do for two hours, I sat at some isolated chair in the clinic and did 20 minutes silent laughter exercise. (BTW now i am very much can do laughter yoga by myself alone). Samples were taken as per schedule.
Now result:
My Fasting Sugar : 99
Sugar Level after breakfast: 91
Please note that I dint did anything except laughter exercise for 20 minutes while waiting for 2 hours.
Pls atleast measure the finding by your home sugar monitor machine.
jd312701 - thank you for your query as follows -
In your response to "nanaboo"regarding the exercise to lower down the sugar level. you haven't mentioned the timing of the exercise except for the first one i.e., "kapalbhati". For the others, "Anulom Vilom " and for pressing the palm of both the hands and stomach no timing is advised; I wanna know it is recommended for after or before a meal. Please do reply. I get a spike after meal which goes up to 170-230 range and after 3/4 hours of a meal my blood sugar is 90-100. I thnk I can well cope with that spike with these exercises. end of query.
Answers to query are posted here so others may benefit:
Anulom vilom - breathing in and out, through each nostril, should be for about 2.5 seconds, and the anulom vilom cycle to be done for 15 to 30 minutes.Ideally to be done before food, but can be done anytime. This will also help control blood pressure.
Pressing the centre point of the palm, and tips of the fingers should be done after the pranayam, but can be done at other times before or after food.
Mandukasan and mandukasan2 should be done 3 times each, before meals.
Hope this helps, and post your progress.
In answer to 'Is there anything I can do to bring the sugar down?'.
These pranayam exercises will help control the diabetes and the side effects.Build up the timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after about a minute. The benefits will be noticed in weeks as the sugar level is checked daily.Over the long term the diabetes will be in full control.Your feedback will help others in similar position.
Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 15 to 30 minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 10 to 15 minutes twice a day.
Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently(once in 2 seconds).
Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30 minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years - do 10 to 15 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.
Also everyday, press the centre point of the palm of both your hands 40 times with the thumb and press the tips of all fingers 40 times each.
To stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin: mandukasan(not for pregnant women) - kneel down(with feet pointing inwards, and sit on the ankles/heels, Vajrasan position), breathe in and breathe out completely and hold your breath, pull the stomach in, press both your hands on stomach, bend forward as much as possible keeping the head straight, hold for 5 to 15 seconds and come back up while breathing in. Repeat this 3 times daily to stimulate the kidney and pancreas.Mandukasan2 - Repeat the whole process, but this time with with fists of both hands pressing against the stomach.Mandukasan can be done sitting on a chair, if you cannot bend the legs.
Continue the breathing exercises once a day, after the diabetes is in full control.
Cinnamon is not going to help you with blood sugars of 361...trust me! What time is it in relation to a meal? If it is 1-3 hours after a meal it sounds like you need to be on a bolus (fast-acting) insulin before your meals as well as the Lantus. That is generally the standard of care. I would make an appointment with your endo ASAP (regular doctors may not know how to work with basal/bolus insulin). In the meantime, do what you can to get your numbers down: reduce your carb intake as much as you possibly can (eat meat, fish, or other protein and fresh vegies, eliminate as much as possible starches). It is not recommended to exercise when you are that high. Drink a lot of water. If your numbers remain that high and you start to feel flu symptoms or to vomit, go to the ER.
You can take Cinnamon. It's all natural and it has been proven to lower blood sugar. Also, you might want to try Gymenama I think it's called ? People with PCOS take it with diabetes and it helps.
