Minimum amount of calories I can consume and be healthy for my weight

Hey everyone, I'm Tiff a 20 year old college student.
I'm 5'4" and weigh 145 lbs., much of which is in my butt, hip, and thigh area.

I'm trying to get in shape before I start school at end of Aug. and have set a long term goal of loosing anywere from 10-20lbs total depending on how toned I look.

My short term goal for the rest of the summer vacation is to loose about 10 lbs and tone up.

I kinda know what I need to do for exercise but suggestions are welcome!

I need help with a simple, healthy eating plan and {{{{how many calories I should consume each day?}}}

I'm thinking of going on slim fast or the Kellogg's Special K-cereal diet for about 2 or 3 weeks to jump start weight loss, have they worked for anyone?

Thaks for any suggestions.

Dr. K is fantastic. he is good looking too. but, seriously, he really is personable and listens to you. and what i liked was that he explained to me the reason behind everything he did. his work up is very professional, im seeing great results allready.

Finally, there is someone out there who is legit!!
thank you andreap for letting us know about him.

Sounds a bit dangerous. I would talk to my doctor first. Please don't go to such an extreme

I know an excellent physician in Beverly Hills that measures your direct metabolism. you breath in this tube for ten minutes and then he gives you a very professional printout that tells you how many calories you burn when you are at rest and how many calories you need to burn for each pound and etc......
He is the most caring bariatric physician I or any of my family and friends have seen. He is additionally trained in weight management and he is very genuine. He will take that and your total body fat analysis and talks to you for an hour before he makes a personalised plan for you to lose weight. he also has a dietician who is excellent.

definitely worth it !!!!

for those of you interested.....(866)9delight or (818) 996-1048
by the way the name of his clinic is Delight Medical & Wellness Center.

please post up your comments here when you see him. I want everyone to experience a good thing. Trust me, i've definately searched around.

basically ditto on all the above comments... but i have one tip that will help you eat slower, because i had to train myself to do it too.  i'd finish a meal in 3-4 minutes flat, and then would complain that my stomach was swollen looking, and i couldn't lose those last 5 pounds... so to slow down, i tried eating with my opposite hand (quite a feat when you're using chopsticks and not too good at it to begin with haha!)  it will keep you at a slow pace... and also will frustrate you so you won't want to eat as much hahahha!

Yes the Special K diet does work. If you dont like Special K, you can always substitute a low calorie cereal. I found the trick to eat a lot of LOW calorie cereal that fills you up (ie Special K or Mini wheats). Adding fruit spices each bowl up differently.

Drink lots of water. Once you start drinking all your water, you stop retaining as much, and you lose a couple pounds of water weight, which can be great to get you motivated.

Start a nutrition journal, log everything you eat, how you did (health wise) everyday (I usually put a happy face if I didnt splurge, a sad face if I did, a so so face if I didnt have time to work out etc). Also log your work out for the day. And log your weight. Itll teach you to be on top of things. Plus when you notice your weight go down, youre more inclined to see how far it drops!

Dont forget to eat a balanced meal for dinner, plenty of vegetables (watch what you add to a salad, toppings and lots of heavy dressing  makes a salad high in calories!)

Im trying the same thing, losing weight for school. After living in a cold climate, Im used to packing weight in the winter. But Im going to California for college, so Im hoping to lose the weight once and for all!

I found that a good start is to eliminate desserts, replace fruit (or veges dipped in dressing), eliminate junk food (eventually you wont even want to touch the stuff (soda, french fries, chips, pizza, on a regular basis) Its important not to cut these things out at once because you will feel like you a missing out. Over time, you will feel better abot what youre eating.

Eat slow, you eat less. Although this is hard when you have a busy schedule.

Remember the nutrition journal! Its a good habit to realize what youre eating anyways.

Best of luck!

Take one thing that you are eating that you know is not good for you out of your diet.
I started with sodas.
Then with fried foods.
Then with red meat.
I have lost 90 pounds over the past two years with diet, exercise, phentermine and B-12 injections.

Don't do any crash dieting because this will just cause binge eating later on because your body will be starved of food.

To start out for a simple health plan just start eating your meals at home.  Eat a ton of boneless skinless chicken breasts. You can add a ton of spices and sauces to them without dramtically increasing calorie content.  Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and try to have soup once a day for a meal.(homemade is better because of the increased nutritional content and less sodium)

For exercise simply walk around the block once or twice a day.  By simply walking at a brisk pace for 1-2  hour you can burn 300-400 calories.  After 8 day this will equal about 1 pound of fat.

Just keep this about aviod snacking at all costs, only eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full. If you drink regular soda try to cut back by substituitng water once in a while.
