the 17 day diet

I have never tried a book diet like this before. I started this one because it was a weak moment and I had read all good reviews about this diet that's been on the best seller list for months now.  I was impressed when I read that it had info for night shift workers so I bought it.  I'm a medical professional so I've always known what to do to lose weight - eat less, exercise more - but as we all know, that's so much easier said than done. I wasn't losing the weight on my own so I decided to try this.

I've been on it for a week now and am bored senseless with it!!  I typically do not eat a lot of meat but phase 1 is pretty much meat based. you can substitute beans for the  meat but so far I've just been eating a heck of a lot of chicken and veggies. I don't like fish so I'm pretty darn bored with it all. Phase 1 is very restrictive :(  Only certain meats, certain veggies and certain fruits can be eaten. No rice, no bread, no potatoes and not a lot of veggies that I like in general on it.  I initially lost a few pounds of water weight but am stalled now though that might be because it's that time of the  month too. I'm not hungry on it and I am feeling better on it now than I was a few days ago ( felt sick all the time the first week ).

I'm pretty much convinced this diet works best for folks who were really off in their eating and not those of us who pretty much ate ok as long as they didn't go out to eat and get led astray with 1600 calorie chinese meals and 1200 calorie pizza dinners ( yes, eating out is my biggest problem! ).  It's not the best written and some of what he recommends makes absolutely no sense at all.  I'm not quite ready to give it up yet but am just looking for others who did this diet, were successful and can cheer me on to sticking with it :)

I have tried this diet and it works! The first cycle is the hardest, but it's only 17 days. Keep it on the positive! I have just restarted the diet after being off it for a couple years! Good luck!

I stopped the diet and am just counting calories. It was getting to the point where when I ate chicken and salad or chicken and veggies I felt sick to my stomach because I was so sick of it. I made chicken every which way I could that was still healthy but it was still chicken!!!  ground turkey tastes gross to me so my options were canned tuna or chicken and my body was not liking meat proteins. he says you can do the diet vegetarian but unless you like tofu, you really can't ( and I hate tofu too ) because of the limitations on vegetables.

I'm back to my usual veggies only eating and far happier :)   My grocery bills are also back down to where I'm used to them being - meat is too expensive to eat 2x/day!!!   I've lost 13 pounds since may 2nd which makes me very happy!!

I'm in cycle 2 of the 17 day diet.  I've lost 10 pounds thus far.  The diet allows turkey, chicken and some fish in the first cycle, but I wouldn't say it was "Meat based."  Veggies, fruit, probiotics and water play a huge part in the diet!  I've found many new ways to make chicken, turkey, turkey burgers, etc.  I, too, grew tired in the first week of chicken, but with the research I've done I'm no longer bored.  And as much as I wanted a lean steak, it now makes my tummy hurt.

I've made turkey chili, turkey meatloaf, awesome turkey burgers, buffalo chicken, marinated chicken, etc.  Experiment some with different recipes.  Good luck!

once you get to phase 4 it certainly is. the first phase is just very restrictive.  now that I"m on phase 2, a little easier and less boring :)  lean meats and lots of veggies always a good way to eat !

Is this a diet that you can stick with for the rest of your life?  Anything you stay with over the long term is not worth doing because as soon as you go off it, you are likely to gain back whatever weight you lost, plus some.

Are you getting exercise as well?

it's longer than 17 days that you diet - you diet through 4 17 day phases that get your eating habits to where they should be by the end ( in theory of course! ).

I wasn't doing well counting calories and doing it on my own. Was too easy to go out to eat and not think about the calories in the foods I was eating and I was too easily led astray at work too :(

I'm just soooooooooo bored with chicken and only certain veggies right now. Almost at the end of the 1st phase so it does get me back a lot of the foods I used to eat. Can't wait to get my protein from quinoa instead of chicken!!

Seems there's no one here who has tried this diet.  Have you tried implementing a versatile, healthy diet, with moderate exercise for your weight loss?

Any diet that promises exceptional weight loss in only 17 days, is one I would stay away from because it's healthiest to lose weight at slow rates (1-2 pounds/week)
