Whatawoman is correct that in order to lose 2 pounds/week, you will need to eliminate 7000 calories, which sounds daunting to say the least; but to put it into perspective a bit, split that up over the week and you have 1000 calories/day that you either have to eliminate or work off.  Break that down a bit more, you can eat 500 calories less and work off 500 calories more and it doesn't seem so tough.

Depending on what you normally eat, eliminating 500 calories may not be so hard.  You can leave the butter off your toast or baked potato.  Use plain yogurt instead of sour cream, etc.  There are a lot of little tricks you can use to drop calories and a quite a few of them won't even be noticed.  You can also step up your exercise to burn more calories.

If 1000 calories/day seems too hard to tackle right away, just plan on losing one pound/week; then you only have to eliminate/work off 500 calories/day.

It takes diligence and dedication to meet the commitment, but if you really want to do it, you can.

My first statement is there is NO easy way to lose weight.
Its hard work -  its a daily battle to lose and then maintain your ideal weight.... no cheats, no short cuts that will work long term.

eat less calories and burn off more calories. 3500 calories per pound - so to lose 2lb a week you have to eat less and/or work off 7000 calories a week... not as easy as it sounds....but its doable.

To begin with eat smaller portions, less snacks, drink more water, get enough sleep and move more... then build up each area until youa re in control of what you eat and what you exercise.

Yes, you need to cut calories to lose weight, but you also need exercise.

You can't figure that we all need the same amount of calories/day.  For some people, 1200 wouldn't even be enough to support basic metabolic needs, for others, it might be too much.  You need to calculate your calorie needs based on your current weight, height and activity level to get your BMR, then cut/use calories accordingly.

Make sure you eat protein with each meal/snack, opt for whole grains instead of refined flour, etc.  Get plenty of fruits and veggies - a lot of veggies will give you more bulk with less calories. Opt for whole fruit rather than fruit juices; and make sure you get enough low/no fat dairy and "good" fats, such as avocados, olive oil, nuts, etc. Eliminate white sugar and artificial sweeteners.

You also need a certain amount of exercise in order to keep your body healthy and exercise will help burn off a lot of fat.

If you aren't currently engaging in an exercise routine, start slowly and work up.  Walking is always good exercise - if you can, do 30 min/day - even breaking that up into 10 minute segments is good.  Another good exercise for beginners is yoga.  I have the dvd "Biggest Losers Yoga for Weight Loss" and it's awesome.  Yoga is great for toning muscles, as well as weight loss.

Weight loss of 1-2 pounds/week is recommended.  Make sure you drink plenty of liquid to keep your body hydrated.

The easiest way to lose weight (in terms of success) is to reduce caloric intake. That sounds pretty boring and no one can make money on it. It you have ever watched the "Biggest Loser" you get the impression that 99 per cent of the weight loss achieved has to do with exercise. Not true. The success is achieved almost entirely by reducing calories. The exercise is to make these obese people fit, and exercising is far from an all-day affair with them. So the emphasis is changed in order to make TV exciting. I was told that the "Biggest Loser" regimen is for 1200 calories. I presume it is true. In any case it makes sense. Some of these people must have been ingesting 5000 calories or, who knows, maybe more. One of the men weighed over half a ton when he started. I have no idea how many calories it takes to maintain such a weight.
