Canine Kidney Support Group

Ok, I don't know anything about starting a Group on this forum, but with all of the Dogs out there with Kidney Insufficiency...( failure ).....maybe it is time to start a Canine Kidney Support Group. Poochie Parents can offer support, tips and advice.....What do you think...?

One more thing ... this is actually an old (none operating) User Group, and I found your post almost by accident. I have only just realized it's not the User Group recently begun on MedHelp. Please look up CHRONIC KIDNEY FAILURE IN DOGS User Group and re-post your thread there (copy and paste).

Hello and welcome to the User Group. I know you have sent me a note asking to reply by email, but unfortunately this is not allowed through MedHelp (for safety and security of private information). If you wish to ask a pertinent question you can do so within this thread or, if you prefer, you can send me a message -  though you will probably get more responses through this thread.

I am sorry you have received poor blood results for your dog. Did you get the results from the vet? What are the levels? Azodyl helps to slow down uremic toxin buildup and prevent further kidney damage in dogs. So, it is a useful initial medication. The special kidney diet is also crucial, as you need to control the diet carefully to prevent further toxin build up, mainly from excessive and poor quality proteins.

Have a read of my article about diet, as it will help you become more informed about how important the right diet is:

Tell us about any symptoms she has, because there are people here that have gone through this with their own best friends and they will give you good advice. What was your reason for taking your dog to the vet? Routine or intervention? From what you have said, I am assuming it was just a routine check-up. Have you noticed any changes in her behavior or her physical state?

How old is your dog? Has she lost weight? Is she still eating okay? Is she drinking more? Urinating more? Does she seem lethargic? What were you feeding her before the change to kidney diet?

I just found out today my dog's bun and creatinine levels are elevated.
They started my love on Azodyl and a prescription k/d diet. Recheck in a month.
I am in shock as I just found out bringing her in for a senior check up and had blood drawn for a dental. Now vet is telling me right now a dental would be risky.
I hope I can help others and get support. I love my dog like my own child. It is breaking my heart.

Ok....I did it. I have started a Canine Kidney Disease Support Group. When I did it, I didn't realize I would have to manage the group, so.....
Anybody who wants to help, can jump on in...!   I am hoping that the people who use it, will support each other, because I certainly cannot handle the load of kidney questions by myself.....it just gets to be too heartbreaking.

Thanks for the information, input, and opinions. I do appreciate them.
I am extremely busy with work so I won't be able to start one any time soon, but I will try to look more into it in a few weeks.

This is how to start a group.
Go to your Profile page (My MedHelp)

On the left you will see, under"Applications" a list of things like "Posts", "Trackers",  "Journals"etc

Click on "Forums and Groups" I think it will be at the top on that left sidebar.

On the page it takes you to, you will see, on the RIGHT, "Forum Links"....under this you should see "User Groups"....click on that.

You get to a page where at the top right hand side there's a little icon that looks like people, and you will see  it says "Start a Group".
Click on that and follow instructions.

I Agree....My Goodness, this is sad, huh?  We need to be able to collect all former "Kidney" threads to add as/or into a link......Easier said than done, I'm sure......I'll help if I can.....I don't know how to start a group......Great Idea though, Connie......Again, heartbreaking that we have to even consider this!  Karla

Sorry I pushed the button a bit too quickly there....
Starting a group....I used to know how to do it, and have forgotten. I'll dig around and see if I can find out how and post back.
