Dalmatian

I had a 3 month olds male dalmatian that has passed away in Nov. 2008.  There were no symptoms or signals that he was sick.  He ate well & active. Even his stools looked normal (no diarrheoa).  He was given vaccination & deworm medicine from a vet. Everything looked normal.  At that tragic day, my mum noticed that his eyes were red & that evening he passed away.  What are the possible cause of his dead?  Please email the reply to ***@****, thank you & best regards.

Your post caught my eye because I have a male Dal.  We rescued him this past January and have no idea where he came from or even exactly how old he is - by now probably around 3.5 to 4 years old.

The only way to determine cause of death is to have a vet do a post mortem exam - an autopsy.  Something so sudden with burst blood vessels in the eyes might indicate a high blood pressure problem, but this late who can say why?  He may even have had something like a brain tumor that had no visible symptoms until it invaded a vital area.  It might even have been a toxin (poison) that he ate that could already exist on your property or deliberately thrown onto your property.  Many landscaping plants can be toxic to pets, so do some research on toxic plants that might grow in your area before you try adopting another dog.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  Sudden and unexplained death is terribly difficult to reconcile in our minds.  Since your dog had current vaccinations, I doubt it was a disease that caused his death.  It sounds like something internal was damaged - who knows, it could have even been a genetic defect.  Without a post-mortem, there is just no way of knowing.

I'm sorry, I don't know. Did he die very very soon after the vaccinations and worming? He might have had a rare allergic reaction possibly? Or there might have been some other hidden, undiagnosed problem which no-one knew about because he didn't have any noticeable symptoms.
It is sad when you lose your dog, especially one so young, and my heart goes out to you.
