Chloe is doing better now, thank you! I just never know when a vet visit is warranted, because I do worry about any abnormal behaviour because of her health. She is a bigger chi - 13 pounds. She is a little heavy, but people always comment on how much healthier she looks since first coming into our home. Her fur has grown in fully and is so soft now. She no longer walks with her tail between her legs and enev prances around like one of those Arabian horses.
Vet bills are a little higher with her because of her diet and meds, but it's all worth it. She is so happy and vibrant now. It's amazing what a little love can do. The rescue vet said that dogs in her condition don't live to see their tenth birthday, but we will do everything we can to prove him wrong.
Anyways, thanks for replying! Good luck with your chi :)
Sorry you didn't get any ideas before now... but I hope you took her to the vet, or that there was a natural full recovery shortly after you made you post.
I read mainly because I saw Chihuahua - we took one in as a Foster (not adopted yet) from a nearby shelter. I figured I might learn something,,...so in the absence of any good advice from me, I hop you can give us an update on anything you learn.
Our "Chi" is surely some kind of a mix breed as he weighs about 10 pounds (USA) and is thin, could easily weight 12-15 pounds before becoming fat. What size is your dog?
Wishing well, and thanks for taking in the rescue pup, there's a lot of need for homes and sadly sometimes that results in costly vet bills for the adoption home. We had that experience with a pre-breed Westie we adopted about 3 years ago and lost last December, a month ago. We were able to absorb the cost and are happy we were able to give our little Westie a good home for his end-of-life period. He seemed happy and his end of life was not do to the allergy issues we had been dealing with.
Our little (smaller than the Westie) Chi seems healthy enough, be we have had hiim less than one week. His teeth clearly need to be cleaned and he is presenting a problem with house training..in part due to the rather (normal) cold stretch we are in now in NJ USA. He was in a shelter for about one year and lost whatever he had learned about going outside for the toilet.
