Forever scratching!

Ok so i have a 4 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He started getting itchy skin around two years ago and ever since then it has been like fighting a losing battle to keep his itching at bay.

He is demented with it and we always find him itching himself on the stairs cause he gets relief from it but it also means he gets raw fleash exposed.

He has recently had an alergy test done and we found he is allergic to EVERY thing on the list...every type of pollen, mite etc. So the vet started him on this course of injections which is basically more pollen to help desensitise him from it. Right now he is no better if not worse...tho its only a few months into the course and has a few more months to go.

What my questions are i guess is has anyone else had this same problem? And what did you do to get it sorted? I really feel so sorry for him because he tries so hard to be a happy dog but his itching causes him so much distress and i just wish i could do something for him to at least give him temporary relief.

ps...he has had steroid treatment before (worked very little) and atm he is on antihistamines and skullcap and valarium to calm him and the itching.

My mum has tried every kind of food...veggies helped for a while...that and brown rice but then he started back to his usual scratching again...tho we do still keep veggies in his diet (if he eats them..he likes to eat around them to get the meat the sly git)

And i thought his immune system was working overtime...cause thats why we get allergies eg hayfever...the body recognises that there are foreign particles and tries its best to put up a resistance...its why we get the symptoms we get when we have colds etc.

But maybe because its not working, that his immune system is down. I wouldnt be surprised if dog food makes him bad, who knows what they put in there....as for raw meat, mum went to cook some tripe outside (last time it stunk the place out) and when she went back in the house, came back out, ozzie (the dog) had already eaten it raw...so we know he likes that lol.

Thanks for your comments tho x

My Cocker Spaniel had allergies to everything. The vet said I had to get shots but when I researched this allergy shot ..I declined. I opted for antyhistamines and  quit.  I gradually reduced her dry(crappy) food to minimum giving her only raw meat and than I mixed it with veggies.
She did not scratch herself once.
The vet said she was one of the lucky ones...ya right!

In the wild....... dogs are feeding on raw meat and rotten meat. So when they are introduced to a dry food and who knows what's in it (lately was melamine) no wonder they get sick...and later die .

Antihistamines deplets body from Vit C and they can get cancer later in life.
Any steroid is harmfull for the dogs  on a regular bases.

Your dogs immune system is not working that's why the vet is giving more pollen to get reaction...but it's   not doing any  better.
Please try to change the diet and you will be happy with the outcome.
Hope this helps.Sunes.

Has changing food ever helped? What is his primary food? If you can, list the ingredients from your bag or can.....Thanks, Karla
