HELP PLEASE!!!

My dog got hit by a care and I took her to the vet and they told me that her diaghram got squished by her heart and intestines and that she needs surgery that cost more than I can afford and was wondering is she could get better without the surgery.

Your dog is very severely injured and will need surgery.  No way a ruptured diaphragm and other serious internal injuries will heal without surgical correction.  Very sorry.

Editorial note:

SOME veterinarians, especially emergency clinics, are charging ridiculous fees.  They also strong arm upset pet owners to do procedures that are not medically necessary.  (example; arterial cath to monitor BP when it is not necessary for most ER procedures), Yet we pet owners don't know what is and what is not medically necessary.

Others are good practitioners and understand their role in the community and in the proud tradition of veterinary medicine.  Too many vets attend "Practice Management" seminars where "experts" (not veterinarians) tell them how to crank out more $$.  Many quickly lose site of why they became vets - and it becomes all about the dollar.

Buyer beware!  question all procedures, deal only with someone you trust.  An emergency all bets are off - as you are in immediate need and have very few options.

in today's economy more and more pets will face life threatening consequences because of high veterinary fees.

I am so sorry to hear your sad story, try and get finance, then take out pet insurance for future, it is one of the few types of insurance that pays out well, i had just one tooth needing removed from my horse - non urgent but eventually, if untreated it would have caused serious welfare issues and could have become untreatable and eventually fatal as the horse would loose the ability to eat, it cost £5000 british pounds - unaffordable for any normal person, my insurance paid for all but a few hundred, how pathetic to put a horse down for the sake of one tooth extraction!!  I pay more for my horse insurance than i have ever paid for car or house contents insurance, stuff is stuff, my horse is part of the family! - good luck x

No, she can't get better without surgery.  You have before you a bitter choice: Either go in debt and save your dog's life; or have her put to sleep.

Ask the vet clinic if they offer financing like Care Credit or if they can set up a payment plan for you.

I'm so sorry for you both.  :-(
