eatting own fecies

i have a 6 month old shitzu/pommeranian, ever since i got him 4 months ago  he has been eatting his own poop, he has plenty on food and water down all the time and has access to his food and water, but soon as he goes outside he does his number then turns around right after and eats it not sure what to do about this if someone out there can give some advice  i would really appreciate it......

I have a shih tzu and the breed is well known for it.
I stop mine from eating the poo by watching her go to the loo and then as soon as she finishes i clap her and tell her shes a good girl so she runs to me and away from the poo so i can pick it up.

You can buy a product that you put with the dog's food to make the poop smell bad to them.(as if it doesn't smell bad enough!! lol!) Or pineapple that's supposed to work well. But the best way might be to take him only on the leash when you know it's "poop-time", then catch him precisely in the act of turning round to sniff that business, and firmly tell him NO, and remove him from it, then pick it up yourself. The trick is catching him at THAT PRECISE MOMENT, and not before, and not after. Then he will associate your telling-off with the act itself, and not going walkies, or doing his business.

Well at least he didnt eat another animals poo! Mine ate goat poo!! Yeah brought it in my house and all!! I have to keep a good eye on him now make sure he aint putting somethng besides a nasty bug in his mouth!!

i know it is gross  he grossed me out a few time ive tried changing his food, got vitamins for him thinking he is lacking certain vitamins even took him to the vet and alls they said  its in dogs nature to eat there own mess. but its like he eats like a meal hes only 6 months old  got him train to go outside  but tryin to scold him for eatting right after he does but dont want him to think im scolding him for going outside either but thanks ill try the pineapple and the powder

Some dogs just do that !! You can do go online and look up fore-bid  it is a powder you put on the food  to make them not want to eat poo I got mine on amazon .I took my dogs to the vet nothing wrong ..We changed food ( did not matter)  some dogs just do it =-(

He might not get what he needs from his food or  a lower quality food  will make poop smell to them going in as out, or he over eating or under eating, or he saw mom do it and also watched you clean up and is copying you both, or borad, or he wants a snack amd just likes it. If he does it right after he does his busness it probly because of the food or he copying mom and you picking it up . You could put some pineapple in with  each meal a couple chunks will do, it makes the poo smell bad and they  stay away from it.
