I work long hours and I don't like leaving my Corgi in the crate all day while I am at work so I try to give her some freedom. The first time I gave her freedom was when I got her spayed. She was 6 months old then and I let her roam free in the main part of the apartment while I was gone. She was awesome for the first two weeks then I came home one day to find a strip of carpet in front of the bathroom door destroyed. I crated her for the next few days while I was at work then thought I would try again.....I came home to a chunk out of the closet carpet and padding gone so she was crated indefinitely. One night I went to dinner with a friend and was gone less than two hours and she had been behaving so I decided to leave her out and in that short time the ate a small square out of the carpet in front of the office. I finally gave up one giving her freedom at all. She is now eleven months and about a month and a half ago I got a baby gate for the kitchen and have been putting her in there with plenty of toys to keep her entertained...well last week I came home and found she had scratched a layer of paint off the corner of the wall by the stove I thought it might have been cause she smelt food on the wall or something so I moved her water bowl in front of it so she couldn't get to it. I came home tonight and found that she had done twice the damage to another and a little bit to one across the kitchen. She had been doing so well I don't know why she has decided to start destroying stuff. Is she getting used to the freedom and pushing the line? Is she mad that I leave her? Does she have anxiety?
She is normally well behaved. She barks when she hears a noise that she can't identify or she thinks someone is at the door. She acts like a good little guard dog lol. We go on lots of walks and she has a handful of good doggie friends that she plays with at least once a week normal every couple days. I take her to the dog park and the beach. She always has toys, water, and a bed. I always give her a treat before I crate her or leave. She has interactive toys. Other than being a little spoiled and a typical only child she is amazing.
Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
