Please help...

Hi, I have a 4 year old Jack Russell...he has been on Wellness food for about 8 months...no problems....1/2 cup in morning 1/2 cup in evening.

On Friday night my do started breathing in and like gagging it was weird..then Saturday he seemed fine....Saturday night he vomited (bile) and started going diarrhea very watery dark brown but by Sunday it was more of yellowish brown and still diarrhea and now Monday and Tuesday still the same...I had his poop tested at the vet for parasites etc...it came up clean...he has terrible gas....We figured he ate a critter like a gecko or something b/c we live in West Texas and they are all over the yard he hunts them..etc....also his snout smelled like cat poop I thought maybe he ate cat poop there are stray cats in our neighborhood and I am sure they may come over the fence into our yard at night and poop...

Anyway we are taking him to the vet but my question is any idea's why he would still have diarrhea this long could he all of a sudden be having a reaction to his food??? I know sometimes they say dogs do not do well with a higher quality food but he has been on it with no problems for about 8 months. Also the first day the diarrhea started his poop was dark brown and now its like a yellow brown???

Also he is still his normal playful self...not lethargic at all......everything else seems normal...

Hi. Great news. I would have a read of the articles, if you have the time. I have written them from lots of research, so they may provide you with some useful insights. If you want to look up the quality of manufactured dog food, including the Wellness brand variety you are using, please take a look at DogAdvisor. Just Google it and you will find the website.

Hope your Russell makes a full recovery. They have fairly robust gastrointestinal systems, in comparison to some other breeds, so hopefully all will be well.

Thanks Tony just got back from the vet he thinks micah definitely ate something in the yard a critter or such and that it threw his digestive track off and now he has kind of like colitis ...He gave us an antibiotic and said we should see improvement in a day or 2 but if we don't he needs to come back...His stool is clear of all worms...parasites etc he does not feel it is his food. Not right now anyway

Hi. Wellness make a whole variety of different foods, some good and some not very good at all. Which variety is it? Also, is this dry food? If yes, have a read of this: http://www.infobarrel.com/Why_Dry_Dog_Food_Is_Bad_For_Dogs

And this: http://www.infobarrel.com/Is_Your_Dog_Allergic_To_Its_Food

Yellow stools can mean there is not enough good bacteria in the gut. This can be be due to medications, but you might try adding some plain yogurt (not flavored, as this contains dangerous things for dogs - and the yogurt should not have any artificial sweetener in the ingredients) to her normal food, which will introduce good bacteria into her digestive system.

Hope this helps.
