Puppy is active BUT is not eating

I am worried about my toy poodle. He hasn't been eating much for the last 3 days-- eating about 1/2 a cup one-time per day. After he tries to eat, he seems to develop hiccups. I have tried to give him different types of dog food with no success. He has been drinking water as usual. I have deeply palpated his stomach to feel for hard impactions and signs of pain, but nothing.  He has been having regular bowel movements.

He has been just as active as always, running around like a nut. I have been so careful about keeping him safe from parvo-- almost to the point of being neurotic-- I don't bring him anywhere and don't let him walk anywhere for the back yard. He has been at my partners house since I have got him, because I don't want to bring him around my other dog until his parvo series are done.

Any ideas as to what this could be? Maybe I am over reacting. I am going to give a call to my vet tomorrow, but I dont want to spend $50 if this is somewhat normal, or common and easy to remedy.

Thanks in advance,

Cliff

Thanks so much everyone! He is doing much better! It seem like he was a little bit constipated. Everything is going great now.  The has had his third Parvo shot, so my anxiety is dwindling down.

It's been a long time since I've had a puppy, but I think 1/2 Cup of kibble is probably enough for such a small dog.  I could be wrong, please someone that has raised a puppy lately, let us know....I'm not sure about the hiccups except for maybe eating her food too fast. I'd try 1/4 Cup of food twice a day..(I also,  would add some wet to the dry to tempt her taste)  :)                   Keep us posted.....   Karla

Could your puppy have something stuck in her throat - just a thought - make sure the vet checks your dog's throat -

We had  a similar experience with our Siberian husky when she was a puppy.  She lost about four lbs which is a lot for a dog.  The vet thought she might be bored with her food so we put gravy on it for awhile and that seemed to help.  She behaved a lot like you describe your dog and if he has been pooping and drinking and acting like usual he might be bored with his food too.  We also have an Akita and occasionally the husky would eat her food (same food, different bowl).  She is soon going to be three yrs old and is over 50 lbs.  She is still somewhat of a picky eater but that is part of who she is.  Like you, I'd be reluctant to spend money on a vet but it was worth it.

lonewolf and Miss Puff the picky eater = )
